Gestures are one of the most recently caught upon technique in the user interaction as a substitution for a button press on smart phones .As Android has evovled, the addition of gesture based operations has been consequently increasing may it be in the google authorized apps or the whole UI based interaction.
The "Double Tap to Wake" feature introduced in windows phone OS ,then adopted by LG,has become a general commonly used operation in functionality adopted by OEMs to unlock the device without the need to push your power button.
This functionality has been limited to only the highend devices out ther such as the LG G2 and the LEGENDARY HTC ONE . One of the reasons is the function has to be embedded in the kernel (quite a difficult thing to do).
For other devices ,the low end ones, have an app for that, known as "knockr" by Angs apps .It allows the users to calibrate and select the gesture to be used for a specific purpose such as "double tap" ,"swipe up",etc. and these gestures can be calibrated to open apps, get to lockscreen or even unlock the device.
