This Hard Drive from Dell though named BackPlus , can be used for multipurpose , and is priced aggressively at 8000 INR (78 Pounds), but i got one from FLIPKART at an affordable price of 4310 INR(42 POUNDS) , about 50% discount , which is a good deal .
Design :
As usual , the hard drive is made from Hard Brushed plastic , which gives the smooth feeling when touched . The hard drive also feels tough in the hand which is good in terms of build quality . The material used on the hard drive is never a finger print magnet , which is good as it reduces the chance of UGLY look due to finger prints . Also sometimes material do catch some dust , but it is barely visible due to white color and you can simply wipe it off with a soft cotton cloth.. On the front there's a metal DELL Logo crafted into the plastic , which adds premium feeling to the look.
On the top there's a LED indicator which indicates the power , but never gives me blinking or any other response during transfer ( WEIRD ) . The physical dimensions of the device in mm are "123.4 x 81.1 x 14.5" . The hard drive is very compact in size and easy to carry ..
The only complain with the manufacturer is the length of the cable provided is too small , which means you've to use the Hard Drive very near to the USB ports of the computer , which subtracts some points from the segment of PORTABLE .. But it's fine , as day progresses , it'll be a normal condition ..
Storage :
The hard drive comes with the 1 TB of storage , which might be beyond the limits of our normal use , but it's good enough to store data from multiple places and keep safe , in case of emergency ( i actually lost my data due to Hard Disk crash on my laptop , so i bought this for Backup purpose ) .. And out of 1 TB , about 931 GB are available . I confirmed with my friend who was using Seagate 1 TB HDD , also with my brother who was using WD 1 TB HDD , that they too had 931 GB available storage out of 1 TB ... ( It is the same case with Flash Drives , mobile phone storage , Micro SDs , actual formatted capacity is less )
Transfer speed :
For transfer speed let's take a 30 MB file as a base .. For transferring a 30 MB file ( USB 2.0) to Hard Drive , speeds where between 6 MBPS to 8 MBPS , and the same file via USB 3.0 gave me the speeds of 3MBPS to 5 MBPS ( little bit faster ) ..
