SanDisk Ultra Dual USB Drive : Reivew

Android is amazing.  It has created many different standards of new features at which it operates. "These many standards" allowed manufacturers to produce a accessory which combines some old standards with the new one and ultimately produce a Hybrid Product. SanDisk Ultra Dual USB Drive or Pen Drive is an excellent example. Making use of OTG functionality available in Android Phone ( of course not all), this Dual USB Drive connects to your Android Phone Via Micro USB port, which ultimately removes wires of OTG Cables that were originally used for it.

It's available in three configurations : 16GB, 32GB and 64GB

Starting the review from Build Quality, it's disappointing. The device measures 1.5 inch long and 0.75 inch wide which is easy to carry around either in your pocket or a laptop bag. But considering the build quality you often feel you're going to break it, Yes! It's made out of cheap plastic with two plastic sliders covering the connection part.



Unfortunately the computer connection port as well as Micro USB connection port are USB 2.0, which means you won't be able to take advantage of High Speed USB 3.0 computer ports. It'd have been a lot faster and better if at least the computer connection port was USB 3.0.  The devices can be operated from basically any file manager on Android  like ES File Explorer. The File Transfer speed is like 10-18 MBPS which is not bad, but a USB 3.0 is much faster.



 

Overall It's a good product for the people looking for more compatibility between the multiple devices. This device is also a good choice for phones with a low storage like Moto G, Moto E which supports USB OTG Functionality. Yes the build quality is bad but how much can you expect from a product that costs 587 INR ($9.43)  for it's entry level version.

Moto E Review - Where Affordability meets Performance

The phrase "A phone for the masses" has caught up a lot of attention since Motorola showed off the "Moto E" . Google announcing the Android One programme to reach the masses at lower cost and no loss of premiumness , the smartphones are becoming much more affordable than they were 2-3 years ago.

Seeing this change, we decided to look up one of the first of its kind affordable phone the Moto E by Motorola.

First up we would like to thank Motorola for providing a review unit to make this post possible.We hope that this post of our review of the  Moto E reaches the deepest of masses who still are not able to enjoy the premiership of a smartphone.

Specifications:

A price this low, is bound to see a compromise on the features if not externals, on internals for sure.

• Moto E sports a 1.2 GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 200 with a 1 GB RAM.


• Storage onboard is 4GB with 2.21GB user accessible.


• It supports a microSD card upto 32GB.


• For network connectivity 3G is supported on both SIMs.


• A 1980 mAh battery that just does amazing for an average day use.


• The display is 540x960 qHD with 256 ppi pixel density.


• A 5MP camera with fixed focus that just does well for outdoor shots.


• Moto E comes with latest version of Android Kitkat with guaranteed timely updates.

Physical Overview:

 



Motorola promises the phone to be a long lasting one sacrificing a bit on the elegant aspects.

Moto E is not the most elegant of the phones but it also is not some of the worst design structure. The "Pebble" structure provides the Moto E a well composed ,strong yet a comfortable feel in the hand.

The Gorilla Glass 3 on top of the screen adds to the durability.It is also persistent for some light water splashes.

On the front side, The asymmetric chrome strips increase the elegance of the phone covering the ear piece above screen and the  front facing loudspeaker lying at the bottom.

The volume rocker and the power button are collinearly adjusted on the right hand side.

There is a micro usb charging port at the bottom side and a 3.5mm jack with a secondary microphone at the top.

The Display:

                     

 

Moto E has a very good display in terms of the price it comes and the productivity it offers.The display is a qHD 540x960 resolution 256 ppi pixel density with  rather good viewing angles than many others in its price range.

The display might seem pixelated sometimes when looking closely but from a distance it is better overall.

 

Battery Life:

Moto E has a small battery of 1980 mAh capacity but with the software optimisations  , the battery can easily take you through a day of normal use with a single charge.

For a hardcore use, with heavy media consumption and gaming the battery feels too small and dies out about in just 8 hrs of time.

The standby time is also one of great features . You can go to sleep with 90% charging at night and wakeup with almost 89% left.

Camera:

 

Moto E's  5MP provides everything that you can expect from a fixed focus rear shooter.Great outdoor photos and with a little bit of work you can have a  quality image but the close up shots are the one where the phone struggles. They are just not that clear due to focusing issue.

No flashlight is available. Hence shooting at night is almost impossible.

Though the HDR mode helps in achieving a saturation of colours .

The camera is the only disappointing feature that highlights the low price of this device.

The camera can record only 480p videos but the noise cancellation is really great.

Software:

The software out of the box is 4.4.2 with the OTA of 4.4.4 available now.Also the next big version of android has been promised as an update by Motorola.

The overall UI is a bit forked but it still resembles the stock android experience as on the Nexus devices.

The transitions of windows are smooth due to the 1GB RAM.There is a noticeable lag while switching for multitasking through the "Recent APPs" screen.

Sometimes it has been found that the transition from home to apps tray is faster then the high-end flagships.

There are some special apps which make some daily life tasks easier.

Moto Migrate,Moto Assist and Moto Alert are three apps provided by motorola, functioning as the first one helps migrate the data from your previous phone through wifi , the second one allowing quiet hours during meeting , sleeping and other custom times. The last one helps during an emergency by allowing to contact a relative using a single tap by sharing location, sending SMS or dialing a call.

                         

 

Conclusion:

This is a perfect phone for those who want to use some social apps along with a normal gaming and media experience.

 

Pros:

• Affordable to most of the people looking to buy a smartphone


• timely updates keep the software in track of the latest versions


• the front facing speaker provides a great sound effect.


• good battery life for normal usage.


• great call quality.Good noise cancellation for better calls.

Cons:

• Not so great camera for indoor shooting.


• No HD video recording.


• Not great gaming performance.

On the Whole, If you are looking to buy a new phone this is worth checking out.It can be a great upgrade for people having older,slower smartphones.

 

 

 

Duolingo App review : Your Personal language tutor

Many of us want to learn other languages apart from our mother tongue. Knowing one of the foreign language helps specially when we're travelling to other country and when we need to ask something to a particular person who knows that language. Duolingo is an app available on App store and Play Store for free, which becomes your personal tutor and helps you in learning foreign languages( taking reference as my country India, I'm talking about foreign language).

How to get started

First of all just download the app on your Android, iOS device. As soon as you open the app it will ask whether you're an existing user or new user. Here I assume that you're a new user, so click on new user and it will ask you to choose the language. There's a long list of language available, so I'll be choosing French for this article ( actually I'm learning French since last month). And there you go, now click on option button and select create profile just because it will save all your progress, and you'll be able to continue on multiple devices once logged in.

Overall UI :

Duolingo features traditional Card UI, the combination of simple swipes and gestures. Swiping from left to right brings a card in which you can switch between different courses. The rectangular box shows the stats of your current progress like 255 XP, 2 day streak etc. On the main body of the app, there are three tabs : one with brain symbol which is used for different lessons and select different topics and show your current progress on a particular topic and subtopics (lessons) inside. The second tab is the FRIEND's tab. It basically allows you to add friends and compete with them. The third tab with HOME like logo shows how much lingots do you have.  Outfits, Bonus, skills etc can be purchased by exchanging lingots. And there's option button on the top right for general purposes as well as dumbbell like button which is kind of test. Basically it creates a personalised lesson to improve ourselves, before everything vanishes from our mind. The course starts from basics to phrases, than from food to animals and finally from to grammar to sports, political, economics etc.

Tutor's Teaching :

There is different level of understanding and enjoyment in learning if necessary algorithms are followed. There is always a different  effect on a student by different teachers. In the world were Internet covers most of the daily chapters, learning is easy, convenient  comparatively cheaper and less mobile. Duolingo teaches with an effective way - easy to understand and simple. It basically asks you translate a sentence from English to let's say French and vice versa. Since teaching is done on digital screen, there is probably no limit on how you can teach. The basic words are taught pictures like "le garcon, le sandwich" etc followed by some voice samples which we have to write in the text box down below. Only down side of this app is bad voice output. Seriously you can't guess what actually digital voice is coming out with voice interruptions sometimes. Sometimes it asks you touch the blocks of the words for translating French to English and sometimes Multiple Choice Questions. You get three to four chances in a particular lesson, if you go wrong, you loose chances one by one and then lesson is over and you have to try again. Those chances are represented by hearts.

If you touch a word, it gives the meaning and different forms that can be used with different tenses. You can click on voice button to hear the pronunciation of the word or the whole sentence. Let's say if you go wrong, it gives you the correct answer and you loose a chance, but of course you can try again!

Conclusion:

At last it's a good application to consider, specially if you're not interested in spending money for a paid online  course of learning a particular language. Though there are some paid alternatives available, this app will enough for you and will guide from basics to grammar.

Google without any prior announcement released an app in the play store " Google Camera "   . This was the same step followed by Motorola earlier to update it's Camera app directly from the Play Store and without any hassle of OTA software updates . Google Camera brings on some improvements over the stock Android ( KitKat) camera app  . It's not meant for only Nexus devices , it's meant for all the devices running Android 4.4 , so Galaxy s5 , HTC M8  , Moto G etc ..
